Building Youth Climate Leadership: Oxbridge Hosts Two Powerful Model COPs in Pakistan

In a groundbreaking effort to equip young minds with climate diplomacy and negotiation skills, Oxbridge Innovative Solutions, with support from the Commonwealth and multiple industry partners, organized two large-scale Model Conference of Parties (Model COPs) in Pakistan — creating powerful platforms for students to engage with the complexities of global climate action.

Public School Model COP – November 2024

Backed by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, the first Model COP brought together 130 students from 15 public schools across Islamabad, with an intentional 50% gender balance. These young delegates represented 13 countries, participating in structured climate negotiations modeled after the official UN COP process. Through debates, speeches, and drafting mock climate agreements, students explored topics such as adaptation, mitigation, and equity. The event sparked a deep understanding of climate diplomacy while promoting inclusivity, gender parity, and public sector participation.

The second Model COP, held at Headstart School’s Kuri Campus, was a larger, multi-themed climate simulation engaging over 400 middle and high school students. Participants represented 30+ countries, each delving into one of seven key climate negotiation themes:

  1. Climate Finance and Carbon Markets
  2. AI, Technology, and Climate Innovation
  3. Climate Justice and Equity
  4. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Energy Transition
  5. Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies
  6. Sustainable Practices and Climate Action
  7. Biodiversity and Ecosystem Protection

The event culminated in the presentation of 20 country resolutions, of which 10 were passed through consensus, while 10 were tabled for further debate. It was a strong demonstration of climate diplomacy in action, empowering students to collaborate across borders, develop critical thinking, and propose real-world solutions to the climate crisis. This event was proudly sponsored by LMKT/LMKR, Technopolis, Saudi Pak, and OGDCL, showing strong private-sector support for youth-driven climate action. 📖 Read more in the official Commonwealth feature: Building Youth Climate Action: Model COP in Pakistan Through these Model COPs, Oxbridge has set a powerful precedent for integrating climate education with experiential learning — proving that young people aren’t just the future of climate action, they are already leading it.
