An initiative of Oxbridge Innovative Solutions, Makerspace Islamabad; and is a social enterprise dedicated to taking science education to a whole new level in Pakistan.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM)

Through this platform a “Makers’ Day” was held in two private primary schools in Islamabad where an array of science products were displayed that children aged 4-14 years had made in a month-long immersive science and technology camp. The camp fostered constructionist immersive learning with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) and was hence called STEAM Camp.

There were 22 students enrolled aged 5-12 years. Students worked together to stimulate their:

1. Thinking
2. Reasoning
3. Teamwork
4. Creative skills

The camp consisted of different modules like arts, kinetics, circuit craft and electronics and programming. Student worked on various activities learning different mechanisms, reactions and scientific reasons behind the activities. A whole new set of interesting and amazing activities like spinning rainbow wheel, marbling, color robots, smart cars, and suspension bridge made of popsicle sticks were on display.

The Makers’ Day also featured an interactive session led by Pakistan’s first lady Cartoonist Nigar Nazar, and Nadeem Murtaza director of “Dheere Bolo” who concluded the session by giving it a tinge of music revolving around the solar system and scientific inventions.

The next STEAM camp is took place at Friends ‘Preschool and Activity Centre’. This camp consisted of a whole set of interesting and amazing activities like spinning rainbow wheel, marbling, color robots and many more. The camp this time also featured Nadeem Murtaza who once again, concluded the session by giving it a tinge of music.
